Singapore eSIM for TOKEN2049: How to Set It Up and Be Online at Changi (2026)
Five checks at home, three taps at Changi. How to get a Singapore eSIM for TOKEN2049 working before you reach the taxi queue.
Quick answer: Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Buy a Singapore eSIM that covers every day of your trip and install it at home on Wi-Fi, a few days before you fly. When you land at Changi, switch the eSIM line on, turn on data roaming for that line and set it as your data line. Keep your home SIM on for SMS codes, with its data roaming off.
Key takeaways
- Check two things first: your phone supports eSIM, and it is carrier-unlocked. On iPhone, Settings, General, About should say No SIM restrictions next to Carrier Lock.
- Install at home, switch on at Changi. Installing needs a stable internet connection. Switching on after landing takes a few taps.
- Data roaming ON for the travel eSIM, OFF for your home SIM. Most travel eSIMs connect through local partner networks, so your phone treats them as roaming.
- Your phone uses one data line at a time. Pick the travel eSIM for mobile data and leave the home line for calls and texts.
Which network you get, and what it really costs
In Singapore the Fizen eSIM roams on StarHub (5G). Singapore is sold inside the South-Eastern Asia plan, which covers 18 countries. At 128 kbps you can still send messages and load map tiles, but not hold a video call.

Prices and carrier read from the Fizen catalogue on 23 September 2026. Data only, no calls or SMS.
Prices are before the welcome credit. A new user who opens the eSIM tab in the Fizen app for the first time gets US$10 of eSIM credit automatically, with no code, valid for 12 months. The app shows how much of it comes off your order. Paying by card on the web works too, but the credit only applies in the app.
TOKEN2049 brings 25,000+ people from 160+ countries to Marina Bay Sands on 7 and 8 October 2026. Most of them land at Changi within the same few days, and most of them need data before they reach the taxi queue: for maps, Grab, Telegram, and the QR ticket for the first side event.
Does my phone support eSIM, and is it unlocked?
Most phones from the last few years support eSIM, but not all, and some models sold in certain countries do not. Check your exact model in our eSIM compatibility list.
Then check the lock. A phone locked to your home carrier will refuse another carrier's eSIM.
- iPhone: open Settings, General, About. Apple says an unlocked iPhone shows No SIM restrictions next to Carrier Lock.
- Android: there is no single menu for every brand. If you bought the phone on a contract, ask your carrier whether it is unlocked before you travel.
- Work phones: a company device management profile can block new eSIMs. Ask your IT team now, not from Changi.
What should a TOKEN2049 eSIM include?
Conference weeks are not normal holidays. You take calls between sessions, post from the floor and share a hotspot with a teammate. Check these points before you pay:
| Check | Why it matters in TOKEN2049 week |
|---|---|
| Covers Singapore for every day of your trip | Count from landing day to flight home, plus side events before 7 October and the F1 weekend (9 to 11 October) if you stay. |
| Enough data, or unlimited | Video calls and livestreams use far more data than maps and chat. See how much data a TOKEN2049 week uses. |
| Hotspot allowed | Some plans limit tethering. If you work from a laptop, check the plan terms at checkout or ask the seller before you pay. |
| A backup line | If your only eSIM has a problem during the conference, you are back on crowded venue Wi-Fi. |
| Malaysia included | Useful if you add a trip to Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur. |
| Pay the way you like | Some sellers accept USDT from your own wallet as well as cards. |
iPhone
- Open the install link on your iPhone, or go to Settings, Cellular, Add eSIM and scan the QR code from another screen.
- Give the new line a clear label, such as SG Data. Apple lets you rename plans under Settings, Cellular.
- When iPhone asks which line to use for cellular data, keep your home line for now. You switch after landing.
- If you bought two eSIMs, install both now and label the second one SG Backup.
Android (Pixel and Samsung)
- Pixel: Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, then add an eSIM and scan the QR code.
- Samsung Galaxy: Settings, Connections, SIM manager, Add eSIM, then scan the QR code.
- Rename the new SIM so you can spot it quickly later.
- Leave the travel eSIM switched off until you land.

What do I do when I land at Changi?

- Turn off flight mode.
- Switch the travel eSIM line on. On recent iPhones you may see a prompt to turn on the travel eSIM; tap it.
- Set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line. iPhone: Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data. Pixel: Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, Mobile data. Samsung: SIM manager, Mobile data.
- Turn data roaming on for the travel eSIM. Most travel eSIMs connect through local partner networks, so the phone labels them as roaming.
- Turn data roaming off for your home SIM so it cannot use paid roaming data.
- Wait a minute for the network name to appear, then open a map to test.
Not connecting? Toggle flight mode on and off, check that the right line is chosen for data, then restart the phone. Changi's free #WiFi@Changi works in the arrival halls if you need to reach support. Our eSIM not working abroad checklist has the next steps.
