Can You Pay a QR Ph Code with a Credit Card? What Works for Tourists (2026)
Not directly: QR Ph is paid from a bank or e-wallet balance, and GCash does not take card cash-ins. The tourist route is GCash GTourist with a linked Visa or Mastercard; local credit lines are for residents. Checked on 3 November 2026.
Quick answer: Not directly: a QR Ph code is paid from a bank account or e-wallet balance, and GCash says you cannot cash in with a debit or credit card. The tourist route is GCash GTourist, which charges your linked Visa or Mastercard as a pass-through payment when you scan a merchant's QR, while QR Ph credit options such as Maya Easy Credit and the Atome Card are only for Philippine residents (as of 3 November 2026).
Key takeaways
- QR Ph runs on balances, not cards. It moves money between bank and e-wallet accounts over InstaPay.
- GCash GTourist is the card bridge for visitors: link a Visa or Mastercard with international and online payments enabled, then scan to pay for 30 days.
- Mastercard Pay Local with GCash was announced for the third quarter of 2026; we could not confirm it is live.
- Local credit is for locals. Maya Easy Credit needs Filipino citizenship and residency; the Atome Card needs a valid Philippine ID.
- No card at all? Fizen QR Pay pays QR Ph from USDT; it takes no card top-up either.
The surf school in La Union has a card terminal, but it is "offline today", and the owner points to a QR Ph code taped to the counter. You have a perfectly good Visa in your wallet and no Philippine bank. Can the card pay the code? Not on its own. Here is what sits between a foreign card and a QR Ph sticker, and which bridges actually hold.
Can you pay a QR Ph code with a credit card?
Not directly. QR Ph is the Philippines' national QR standard, and payments route over InstaPay, the real-time rail between banks and e-wallets (PayMongo, June 2026). The payer needs an account with a participating bank or wallet, such as GCash, Maya, BPI or BDO, and the money comes out of that balance.
The usual workaround would be loading a wallet from your card, but GCash closes that door: its help page says "You cannot cash in to your GCash wallet using a debit or credit card." Cash-ins go through linked local banks, InstaPay, partner outlets or remittance centres. So the question becomes: which app will charge your card at the moment you scan?
How does GCash GTourist use your card?
GTourist is GCash's 30-day account for visitors, and it activates only once you are in the Philippines. You link a credit or debit card, and "GCash automatically uses your primary linked card for direct pass-through payments" (GCash Help Center). GTourist users can pay by scanning a Philippine merchant's QR code; sending money needs full verification.
- Ask your bank first. GCash says online and e-commerce payments and international or cross-border payments must be enabled on the card.
- Check the country list. GTourist is open to visitors from listed countries only; see our GTourist explainer.
- Expect card-side costs. GCash notes that some fees may apply, and your card issuer may add a foreign transaction fee.
- Limits: GTourist sits in GCash's Fully Verified tier, with up to ₱500,000 of spending a day.
What about Mastercard Pay Local, Maya, Atome and other credit?
On 3 August 2026 GCash and Mastercard announced Mastercard Pay Local, letting eligible foreign travellers link a Mastercard to GCash and pay local merchants through their existing QR setups, expected in the third quarter of 2026 (Daily Tribune). Eligible cards and registration were to be announced in the app. We could not confirm a launch by 3 November 2026.
- Maya Easy Credit: you can pick it instead of your wallet when you scan a QR Ph code, but it is for Filipino citizens and residents aged 21 to 65 with an upgraded Maya account (Maya).
- Atome Card: scan to pay with QR Ph in 3 or 6 monthly instalments, but it needs a valid Philippine ID (Atome PH app listing).
- Maya card cash-in: upgraded accounts can add money by card up to ₱10,000 per transaction, but Maya has no tourist account (see Maya vs GCash).

What is the no-card option?
If your card keeps bouncing or your travel money is USDT, Fizen QR Pay pays the same QR Ph codes for travellers and foreigners, and the merchant receives pesos. To be clear, it does not take cards either: it is funded only with USDT on Solana or BNB Chain. Create or import your Fizen wallet, get USDT into it, deposit from the wallet into QR Pay and pass KYC (per wallet and per device), then scan and confirm. BNB Chain deposits need no gas; Solana needs a little SOL. USDT on another network, or another token, cannot be deposited. Limits: US$800 per payment, US$1,000 per week; any fee shows before you confirm. Steps: QR Pay getting started. Not for residents of the Philippines.
Your money. Your freedom. No borders. The Fizen wallet is self-custody. QR Pay works differently: USDT you move into QR Pay is governed by the Fizen QR Pay Terms, so only move in what you plan to spend. New app users also get a US$10 travel eSIM gift.
