Vietnam Airport Arrival Guide 2026: Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat and Da Nang, Fast Track, Grab and Cash

Quick answer: As of 2 November 2026, international flights arrive at Terminal 2 in Hanoi (Noi Bai), Saigon (Tan Son Nhat) and Da Nang, and Tan Son Nhat's new Terminal 3, opened in April 2025, is domestic only. Foreigners have their own immigration lane at Noi Bai T2 since August 2026, we found no airport-operator fast-track product, and the free digital arrival card from the Immigration Department is the step most likely to save you time. Get data on, then book Grab from the marked pickup point.

Key takeaways

  • File the digital arrival card first. It started at Tan Son Nhat on 15 April 2026 and is reported to cover Noi Bai and Da Nang since June; use only prearrival.immigration.gov.vn, within 72 hours of landing.
  • Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat is domestic. International arrivals still use Terminal 2.
  • Fast track is a private service. Resellers sell meet-and-greet packages; we found no ACV airport-operator version, and Reddit travellers say it depends on the hour you land.
  • Walk past anyone who approaches you inside the terminal. Book Grab yourself from the marked pickup point or use the official taxi queue.
  • Carry a little cash, plan the rest. Airport exchange rates are worse than in town, and QR payments work best once your set-up is done at home.

The plane door opens, the cabin smells of the jet bridge, and your phone has no signal. In the next hour you need to clear immigration, find your bags, get online and get a ride that charges what the app said. None of it is hard, but the order matters, and several things changed in 2026.

This guide covers the three airports most visitors use, what is real and what is marketing about fast track, and how to get from the arrivals hall to your bed. For the taxi tricks, see Vietnam taxi scams.

What do you need to do before you land?

Complete the digital arrival card. Time Out reported on 20 April 2026 that it became mandatory at Tan Son Nhat on 15 April for non-Vietnamese visitors, including visa-free ones; you file on prearrival.immigration.gov.vn within 72 hours of arrival, get a QR code by email, and show it to the officer. About five minutes. Skipping it, Time Out says, will not get you turned away but will slow you down. iVisa and VisasNews reported in June 2026 that the scheme was extended to Noi Bai, Da Nang and Phu Quoc; we could not confirm from an official page whether it is compulsory or optional at each airport, so file it anyway. Type the .gov.vn address yourself and be wary of any site that charges.

The card is not a visa application, so check separately whether you need a visa or e-visa.

What is Noi Bai like for foreign arrivals?

International flights use Terminal 2. Vietnam News reported on 4 August 2026 that T2 now splits immigration into separate lanes for VIPs, foreign nationals, crew, Vietnamese citizens and transit passengers, because previously everyone queued together. The faster average times quoted, about 16 minutes against 26 to 27, are for Vietnamese citizens, so do not expect the same for foreigners. The e-gates in that report are for Vietnamese chip passports. A Vietnam Tourism guide updated 21 October 2026 estimates 15 to 30 minutes in standard lanes, but that is an estimate, not an official figure.

And Tan Son Nhat in Saigon, with its new Terminal 3?

Terminal 3 opened in April 2025 and Vietnam News described it as the home of most domestic flights, so it changes nothing if you fly in from abroad: international arrivals use Terminal 2. In August 2026 an internal road linking T2 and the domestic T1 was opened up to ease congestion, and Tuoi Tre reported on 29 August that staff were sending drivers waiting for international passengers to the left side of T2. The same Vietnam Tourism guide estimates waits of up to 45 minutes, peaking around 2 to 6pm.

What about Da Nang?

Da Nang's international terminal is T2 and Grab's own page lists two GrabCar pickup points at the International Arrival Terminal, Lane 1 and Lane 2, with the city centre only 3 to 5 km away. The Vietnam Tourism guide estimates 10 to 20 minutes at immigration.

Is airport fast track worth it, and is it official?

It is a private service. Resellers sell a meet-and-greet before immigration with an escort to a priority lane, usually for immigration only, and listings say access is subject to the airport and the officer. We found no fast-track product from the airport operator ACV. Reddit's r/VietNam is mixed: a poster in a 2025 thread paid for fast track in Ho Chi Minh City and the staff did not show up; others said it depends on the hour, with one landing at 11pm clearing passport control in under 10 minutes and another needing about two hours for bags in Hanoi. In another thread commenters said you cannot buy it on the spot.

Our rule: skip it at a quiet hour; consider a booked service only if several flights land together and you have a tight connection.

How do you get online and get a ride?

With data already on, you open the app and book before anyone reaches you. At Noi Bai, Grab's page lists international pickup at Pillars 8 and 11 of the International Arrival Terminal and a roughly VND 250,000 to 350,000, 40-minute trip to the centre. At Tan Son Nhat it lists the Parking Lot Area and VND 120,000 to 200,000, 25 to 40 minutes. These are Grab's approximate figures. Unlicensed drivers who approach people inside terminals quote two to three times the meter, a Vietnam Tourism guide warns; walk to the official queue (Mai Linh, Vinasun) or the app.

For data, you can buy a SIM at the carrier counters (see airport SIM or eSIM) or install a travel eSIM at home. Fizen's Vietnam coverage, as of 2 November 2026, is the Asia plan for 18 countries on Viettel Mobile 4G, with fixed-data plans slowing to 128 kbps after the allowance. Check the eSIM tab or fizen.io/esim for current plans.

Your travel eSIM gift is waiting: US$10 of eSIM credit. It is exclusive to new Fizen app users, lands in the eSIM tab the moment you join, and saves you up to 30% on each data plan until it is used. Pay with USDT on Solana or BNB Chain, or by card via Stripe.

Cash or QR at the airport?

Have a little cash for the first stop. The Vietnam Tourism guide says airport exchange rates run 2 to 5% worse than in town and ATM fees are VND 20,000 to 40,000 plus your bank's charges; our ATM fees guide has the detail. Payments are moving fast: Vietnam News reported on 28 September 2026 that QR payments are spreading from hotels and malls to markets and restaurants. QR Pay in the same app lets foreign visitors pay Vietnamese bank QR codes (VietQR, VNPay, MoMo, ZaloPay) from USDT on Solana or BNB Chain, up to US$800 a payment and US$1,000 a week. People who live in Vietnam cannot use it there, KYC applies per wallet and per device, and USDT moved in is governed by the QR Pay Terms, so move in only what you plan to spend. Steps: QR Pay getting started.

What do people who have done it say?

  • Reddit's r/VietNam: one poster arriving at 6:30am cleared normal immigration in under 5 minutes by choosing a less crowded counter; another recalled a 90-minute slow line on a past visit.
  • Another poster landing in Hanoi cleared immigration in under 30 minutes but waited about two hours for bags, so book the ride after the carousel, not before.
