Philippines eSIM Not Working? How to Fix No Data After Landing (Airalo, Fizen and Others, 2026)
No data after landing in Manila or Cebu? Work through the line, the data switch, data roaming, the network and the APN in that order. Steps for iPhone and Android, plus Airalo's APN rule.
Quick answer: When a travel eSIM shows no data after you land in the Philippines, it is almost always a setting: the eSIM line must be switched on, chosen as your mobile data line, with Data Roaming on for that line. If it still fails, toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds, pick the network by hand (Globe for Fizen's Philippines plan, Smart for Airalo's as listed on 3 November 2026), and enter an APN only if your eSIM's details show one.
Key takeaways
- Three switches fix most cases: eSIM line on, eSIM chosen for mobile data, Data Roaming on for the eSIM line.
- Pick the right network: Fizen's Philippines plan runs on Globe; Airalo's Philippines page lists Smart as its primary network (3 November 2026).
- APN only if your eSIM shows one. Airalo says that if no APN is listed in the app, the eSIM configures itself.
- Never delete the eSIM while troubleshooting. Contact support with your order details instead.
Airplane mode off at NAIA, the eSIM shows bars, and still nothing loads. The taxi queue moves on without you. Our roaming label guide explains why the line says roaming; this page goes wider, through every setting that blocks data, in the order to check them.
Why does a travel eSIM show no data in the Philippines?
- The eSIM line is off. Installed is not the same as switched on.
- Your home SIM is still the data line. The phone keeps using it, and its roaming may be blocked.
- Data Roaming is off on the eSIM line. A travel eSIM roams on a Philippine network, so it needs it on.
- The phone is stuck on a network your plan does not use, Globe or Smart.
- An APN is missing, on the few eSIMs that need one.
- The data is used up or the plan has ended. On Fizen's fixed plans speed drops to 128 kbps, which feels dead for maps.
Fizen's help centre adds one rule: don't delete the eSIM, no matter what.
How do you fix it on an iPhone?
- Settings, Cellular: tap the eSIM line and make sure Turn On This Line is on.
- Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data: select the eSIM.
- Tap the eSIM line, Cellular Data Options: turn Data Roaming on. Turn it off on your home line.
- Airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then off, so the phone picks the best network.
- Still nothing: tap the eSIM line, Network Selection, switch off Automatic and choose Globe or Smart, whichever your plan uses.
- Check Settings, General, Date and Time is set automatically.
Steps 3, 4 and 6 come from Apple's page on cellular data roaming, read 3 November 2026.
How do you fix it on Android?
- Settings, Network and internet (Connections on some phones), SIMs: open the eSIM and turn Use this SIM on.
- Under your primary SIMs, set Mobile data to the eSIM. Only one SIM can be the data default.
- In the eSIM's settings, turn Roaming on. Turn it off on your home SIM.
- Airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then off.
- Still nothing: in the eSIM's Mobile network settings, switch off automatic network selection and choose Globe or Smart.
Menu names differ between Pixel, Samsung and other brands; the Pixel steps are from Google's dual-SIM help page.
Do you need an APN for Airalo or Fizen in the Philippines?
Usually not. Airalo's help centre says the APN, when an eSIM needs one, appears in its app under My eSIMs, View details, How to connect. If no APN is listed, the eSIM is configured automatically. When one is listed, enter it exactly, all lowercase with no spaces, leave the other fields blank and restart. On iPhone that is Cellular, your eSIM, Cellular Data Network; on Android, Mobile networks, Access Point Names.
Fizen's five-step checklist has no APN step: line, data line, data roaming, airplane mode, manual network, then check your balance in the app under My eSIMs. Fizen's Philippines plan uses Globe 4G and 5G, and its Asia regional plan uses Smart in the Philippines.
What if it is not your settings?
Then it is a fault, and the provider should fix it. Every Fizen eSIM comes with a 1:1 Trip Guarantee for the whole trip: a free replacement if the eSIM fails on Fizen's side. Open live chat in the app and send your Order ID, the ICCID (My eSIMs, under Manual installation), your device model and a screenshot. A real person, not a bot, walks you through it. With another provider, use their in-app support the same way.
Exclusive to new Fizen app users: US$10 of eSIM credit lands in the eSIM tab the moment you join and pays for up to 30% of each plan until it is used. Pay with USDT or by card (Stripe). Your money. Your freedom. No borders.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Airalo eSIM not working in the Philippines?
Usually a setting: the eSIM line off, the wrong data line, or Data Roaming off on the eSIM. Airalo's Philippines page lists Smart as the primary network (3 November 2026).
What is the Airalo Philippines APN?
Airalo shows it in the app under My eSIMs, View details, How to connect. If no APN is listed, the eSIM sets itself up and you enter nothing.
Should data roaming be on or off in the Philippines?
On for the travel eSIM line, which roams on a Philippine network. Off for your home SIM, so it cannot charge you roaming.
Should I choose Globe or Smart?
Whichever your plan uses. Fizen's Philippines plan runs on Globe; Fizen's Asia regional plan uses Smart in the Philippines; Airalo lists Smart for its Philippines eSIM.
Should I delete and reinstall the eSIM?
No. Fizen's help centre says don't delete the eSIM, no matter what. Contact support with your Order ID and ICCID instead.
