- Description: Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Vietnam, and the e-visa is the easy one, if you use the right website and leave enough time. Fees, processing, the Phu Quoc exception the Indian Embassy warns about, and the first hour after landing.

**Quick answer:** Indian passport holders need a visa for mainland Vietnam. The simplest is the e-visa from the official portal, evisa.gov.vn: US$25 for single entry or US$50 for multiple entry, valid up to 90 days, usually processed in about 3 working days. Phu Quoc island is visa-free for up to 30 days only if you fly or sail in directly from abroad and stay on the island, and the Indian Embassy in Hanoi advises getting an e-visa anyway.

**Key takeaways**

- **US$25 single entry, US$50 multiple entry,** valid up to 90 days, paid online by international card. The fee is not refunded if the application is rejected.
- **Use evisa.gov.vn only.** Lookalike agency sites charge more for the same visa.
- **Apply two weeks ahead** in normal season and earlier around Tet. Processing is about 3 working days, longer in peaks or if details do not match.
- **Phu Quoc is visa-free for 30 days** only when you arrive there directly from outside Vietnam and stay on the island. A connection through Ho Chi Minh City means you need a visa.

The e-visa PDF is the one document every Indian traveller to Vietnam ends up showing twice: once to the airline at check-in in Delhi or Mumbai, once to the officer in Da Nang or Hanoi. Get it right and nobody looks at it for more than ten seconds. Get it from the wrong website and you pay double for the same stamp.

Vietnam received more than 612,000 Indian visitors in the first eight months of 2026, so the process is well worn. Here is how it works now.

## Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam in 2026?

Yes, for the mainland. India is not on Vietnam's visa-exemption list, so Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hoi An all need a visa. You have three routes: the e-visa, a visa on arrival with a pre-approval letter from an agency (airports only, stamping fee paid in cash), or a sticker visa from the Vietnamese Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulate in Mumbai. For a holiday, the e-visa wins on every count.

## How much does the Vietnam e-visa cost and how long is it valid?

| Type | Government fee | Validity |
| --------------------- | -------------- | ------------- |
| Single entry e-visa | US$25 | Up to 90 days |
| Multiple entry e-visa | US$50 | Up to 90 days |

That is roughly ₹2,100 or ₹4,200, paid online by international card. The fee is non-refundable even if the application is refused, which is the best reason to fill the form slowly. Choose multiple entry if your trip includes a side hop to Cambodia or Thailand and back.

## How long does processing take?

About 3 working days on average, and up to 5 to 7 in peak periods. Mismatched details stretch it further. Apply at least two weeks before you fly in normal season, and around four weeks ahead if your dates touch Tet, when offices slow down and flights fill.

## What do you need for the application?

- **Passport** with at least six months of validity beyond arrival and two blank pages, plus a clear scan of the photo page.
- **A photo** 4 by 6 cm, white background, facing the camera, no glasses.
- **Your entry and exit points.** Vietnam lists 83 approved ports. If plans change after approval, you can enter or leave through another approved port.
- **An international card** for the fee.

The official portals are evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn. Search ads often show agency sites first, so type the address yourself.

## Is Phu Quoc visa-free for Indians?

Yes, with conditions that catch people out. Phu Quoc gives foreign visitors, Indians included, up to 30 days visa-free if they arrive on the island directly from outside Vietnam and stay there. Fly Mumbai to Ho Chi Minh City and then on to Phu Quoc, and you entered Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City, so you need a visa.

On 6 April 2026 the Embassy of India in Hanoi went further and advised Indians to get a Vietnamese visa even for a Phu Quoc-only trip. Its reason is practical: a medical emergency or a cancelled flight can force you to the mainland, and without a visa you face restricted movement, delays in care and immigration trouble. For US$25, we would take that advice.

## What should you sort out before you land?

**Cash.** Declare foreign currency over US$5,000, or more than 15 million dong, at customs. Most visitors carry far less: a few thousand rupees' worth of dong for the taxi queue is plenty, and RBI rules cap foreign currency notes from your bank at US$3,000 per trip.

**UPI will not help yet.** India's NPCI International and Vietnam's NAPAS signed a QR memorandum in May 2026, but no launch date has been set, so PhonePe cannot scan a VietQR code.

**A QR option for street food.** As a foreigner in Vietnam you can use Fizen QR Pay to pay VietQR, VNPay, MoMo and ZaloPay codes. Create or import your Fizen wallet (non-custodial), get USDT on Solana or BNB Chain into it, deposit from the wallet into QR Pay, complete KYC (per wallet and per device), then scan. USDT on another network, or another token, cannot be deposited. The [QR Pay guide](https://docs.fizen.io/help-center/fizen-app/faq/how-to-use-qr-pay?ref=blog.fizen.io) has the screens. Limits are US$800 per payment and US$1,000 per week, and in Vietnam it pays only Vietnamese account holders' codes. USDT moved into QR Pay is governed by the QR Pay Terms, so move in only what you will spend. India taxes virtual digital assets at 30% with 1% TDS on transfers; if you do not hold USDT already, a forex card is the simpler choice.

**Data.** Fizen's Vietnam eSIM runs on Viettel's 4G network, checked on 26 October 2026, and speed drops to 128 kbps once a fixed plan's data is used, so size it for the whole trip; most plans cannot be topped up. Install it at home on Wi-Fi and keep your Indian SIM in for bank OTPs. New users get US$10 of eSIM credit in the Fizen app's eSIM tab.

## What does the arrival look like when it is done right?

Visa PDF approved and saved offline, phone online before the aircraft door opens, Grab booked from the gate. Fizen is building the stablecoin neobank for people on the move, and the first hour in Vietnam is where that matters: data on, the first banh mi paid by QR.
