# GCash OTP Not Arriving on a Travel eSIM? How Visitors Fix It in the Philippines (2026)

- Description: Your travel eSIM has data but no number, so GCash's six-digit code goes nowhere. Here is the two-line setup that gets it through, the fixes GCash itself lists, and how to pay QR Ph without GCash.

**Quick answer:** A data-only travel eSIM has no phone number, so it cannot receive a GCash OTP: GCash texts the six-digit code to the number you sign up with, which for a visitor on GTourist is your home number with roaming enabled. Keep your home SIM on for the code and let the travel eSIM carry the data, or skip GCash and pay QR Ph codes with Fizen QR Pay, which needs no Philippine number or bank.

**Key takeaways**

- **GTourist uses your home number.** GCash's help centre says to make sure your SIM has roaming enabled to receive the six-digit code (read 3 November 2026).
- **Two lines, two jobs:** home SIM on for texts with its data roaming off, travel eSIM on as the data line with data roaming on.
- **A Philippine number does not help with GTourist.** GCash lists a non-Philippine number or SIM as a requirement.
- **No GCash at all?** Visitors can pay QR Ph codes from USDT with Fizen QR Pay.

The carinderia owner points at the QR Ph sticker, you open GCash to sign up, and the code never comes. Your phone has perfect data from the travel eSIM, which is exactly the problem: data is all it has. This is the fix, checked against GCash's own help pages on 3 November 2026.

## Why can't a travel eSIM receive a GCash OTP?

A travel eSIM is data-only: no number, no SMS. GCash's GTourist sign-up asks for your mobile number, then sends a six-digit OTP to it, and says to make sure your SIM has roaming enabled. GTourist needs a non-Philippine number or SIM, you must be 18 or over, and your country must be on GCash's list, which includes Australia, the US, the UK, Japan, South Korea and most of Europe. The account activates only inside the Philippines with location on, and lasts 30 days.

Once you are in, the codes change. GCash says it is moving its own OTPs to in-app push notifications, while partner codes, such as BPI cash-in, may still come by SMS. Login codes never come by email. So switch GCash notifications on as soon as you sign up.

## How do you set up two lines so the code arrives?

1. **Home SIM:** keep the line switched on, confirm international roaming is active on your plan, and turn **Data Roaming off** for this line so it cannot run up a bill.
2. **Travel eSIM:** switch the line on, turn its Data Roaming on, and pick it as your mobile data line (iPhone: Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data; Pixel: Settings, Network and internet, SIMs).
3. **GCash:** enter your home number with its country code, allow location, and wait for the text on the home line.
4. **After sign-up:** turn on GCash push notifications so later codes arrive in the app.

Check what your home carrier charges first. Some charge a daily roaming pass the moment you send a text or use data. Telstra, for example, says receiving an SMS does not trigger its Day Pass, but sending one does.

## What if the GCash code still does not arrive?

GCash's "Didn't receive OTP" page lists these, in order:

- Check signal and that the SIM has roaming. GCash says you cannot access it without it.
- Airplane mode on for five seconds, then off.
- Force close GCash, reopen it, or restart the phone, and update the app.
- Clear old texts if the SMS inbox is full.
- On Samsung, set Samsung Messages, not Google Messages, as the default SMS app.

If sign-up itself fails, GCash says to check the number is non-Philippine and your details match your passport, middle name included. Rejections and ID rules are in [Can foreigners use GCash?](https://blog.fizen.io/gcash-for-foreigners-philippines-2026/)

## Will a Globe or Smart SIM fix GCash for a tourist?

Not for GTourist. A local Globe or Smart SIM gives you a +63 number, but GTourist asks for a non-Philippine one, and a tourist's registered line lasts 30 days ([how the 30-day rule works](https://blog.fizen.io/philippine-tourist-sim-registration-30-days-2026/)). Unsure whether you need a local number at all? Read [Philippines eSIM with a phone number or data only](https://blog.fizen.io/philippines-esim-with-phone-number-2026/). ## Can you pay QR Ph without GCash or a Philippine number?

Yes. Fizen QR Pay scans QR Ph codes for visitors and foreigners; Filipino residents cannot use it in the Philippines. Create or import your Fizen wallet (non-custodial), get USDT on Solana or BNB Chain into it, deposit from the wallet into QR Pay (KYC per wallet and per device), then scan and pay. It is funded only with USDT on Solana or BNB Chain: no bank link, no card. USDT on another network, or another token, cannot be deposited. Limits: US$800 per payment, US$1,000 per week. Steps: [QR Pay getting started](https://docs.fizen.io/help-center/fizen-qr-pay/getting-started?ref=blog.fizen.io).

The same app sells the travel eSIM, on Globe in the Philippines. Exclusive to new Fizen app users: US$10 of eSIM credit lands in the eSIM tab the moment you join and pays for up to 30% of each plan until it is used. **Your money. Your freedom. No borders.**

## Frequently asked questions

#### Can I receive a GCash OTP on a travel eSIM?

No. A travel eSIM is data-only with no number, so the SMS has nowhere to land. Use your home SIM for the code and the eSIM for data.

#### Can I sign up for GCash with a foreign number?

Yes, through GTourist, if your country is on GCash's list. It needs a non-Philippine number, you must be 18 or over, and the account lasts 30 days from activation.

#### Does GCash send the OTP by email?

Not for logins, according to GCash's help centre. GCash is moving its own codes to in-app push notifications, so turn notifications on once your account works.

#### Should I buy a Globe eSIM for GCash?

Not for GTourist, which asks for a non-Philippine number. A local line gives you a +63 number, but a tourist's registration lasts 30 days.

#### Can I pay QR Ph codes without GCash?

Visitors can, with Fizen QR Pay, funded only with USDT on Solana or BNB Chain. Filipino residents cannot use it in the Philippines.
