- Description: The two-hour Cebu to Bohol ferry, the fare change on 21 September 2026, where QR Ph is reported in Cebu malls and cafes, why the Bohol countryside is a cash trip, and the signal map for Panglao, Loboc and the Chocolate Hills.

**Quick answer:** As of 2 November 2026, the Cebu to Bohol ferry takes about two hours: OceanJet's fast craft from Cebu Pier 1 to Tagbilaran is P960 in tourist class one way since 21 September 2026, and Lite Ferries sails to Tubigon. QR Ph codes are reported at Cebu City malls and cafes, but the Bohol countryside tour (Chocolate Hills, tarsiers, Loboc cruise) is a cash trip, and signal drops in the Loboc gorge, on farm roads and on offshore islands.

**Key takeaways**

- **Fares changed on 21 September 2026.** OceanJet's fast craft is P960 tourist and P1,440 business one way, up from P800 and P1,200, according to a Cebu route guide; confirm at the counter.
- **Ferries get cancelled.** OceanJet cancelled and re-timed some central Visayas sailings through August 2026, one for maintenance on 30 September 2026, and weather can stop sailings at short notice.
- **QR Ph is the national standard,** so one code takes any participating bank or e-wallet app, but I found no source saying Bohol's countryside sites accept it. Budget cash for fees.
- **Signal is good on Panglao and in Tagbilaran and thin on farm roads, in the Loboc gorge and offshore.**

You step off the Cebu fast craft at Tagbilaran with a driver holding your name, a phone full of QR codes and no idea whether the Chocolate Hills ticket office takes anything but peso notes. The ferry is the easy part. The money and the signal are what catch visitors out on Bohol, and they are what this guide is about, as of 2 November 2026.

It does not repeat our beach-by-beach [Bohol and Panglao cash, QR and eSIM guide](https://blog.fizen.io/bohol-panglao-philippines-cash-qr-esim-2026/); this one starts at the Cebu pier.

## How do I get from Cebu to Bohol by ferry?

A Cebu route guide last checked in October 2026 lists three ways across:

| Operator | Route | Time | Notes |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- | --------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| OceanJet (fast craft, passengers only) | Cebu City Pier 1 to Tagbilaran | About 2 hours | P960 tourist, P1,440 business one way from 21 September 2026 (was P800 and P1,200); student, senior and PWD fares on OceanJet's booking page are for Filipino nationals only |
| Lite Ferries (RORO, takes vehicles) | Cebu Pier 3 to Tubigon, north-west Bohol | About 2 hours | I did not find current fares |
| Apekop (one banca a day) | Oslob, Quartel Beach to Momo Beach, Panglao | About 1.5 hours | Boards 11:00, departs 11:30 |

Tagbilaran is the usual port for Panglao's beaches. OceanJet's main office is at Pier 4, McArthur Road, Cebu City, phone (032) 255-7560, and it sells online. I could not find which payment methods its booking page accepts.

## What can go wrong with the Cebu to Bohol ferry?

OceanJet cancelled and re-timed central Visayas sailings through August 2026, some for fuel conservation, and cancelled a Tagbilaran to Cebu sailing on 30 September 2026 for vessel maintenance. Weather can stop sailings at short notice, so check advisories the evening before. If OceanJet cancels, the guide says it must carry you by other reasonable means or refund the ticket. A TripAdvisor reviewer says the terminal fee is paid in cash at each end of the crossing, so keep small notes. Cebu's pier scams are in our [Philippines scams guide](https://blog.fizen.io/philippines-scams-2026/).

## Where does QR Ph work in Cebu and Bohol?

QR Ph is the Philippines' national QR standard under Bangko Sentral circular 1055 (2019), so one merchant code can be paid from any participating bank or e-wallet app. A BSP memorandum disabled proprietary merchant QR codes from 1 July 2023.

In Cebu City the older evidence is good: about 90 shops in Ayala Center Cebu were reported accepting GCash QR payments, and SM's group-wide GCash QR deal in December 2022 covered its malls, supermarkets and food outlets, Philstar reported. I found no current merchant list, so ask "QR Ph?" before you order. GCash's tourist route is in [our GCash GTourist guide](https://blog.fizen.io/gcash-gtourist-philippines-explained-2026/); QR Pay is a different way to pay the same codes without a Philippine wallet.

Fizen QR Pay lets visitors and foreigners scan QR Ph codes and pay from USDT, with the peso amount shown before you confirm; people who live in the Philippines cannot use it in the Philippines. Create or import your Fizen wallet (non-custodial, you hold the keys), get USDT on Solana or BNB Chain into it, deposit from the wallet into QR Pay, then scan and pay. BNB Chain deposits need no gas; on Solana you need a little SOL. KYC applies per wallet and per device. There is no bank link and no card, and USDT on another network, or another token, cannot be deposited. Limits are US$800 per payment and US$1,000 per week, with no daily limit. The Fizen wallet is self-custody; USDT you move into QR Pay is governed by the QR Pay Terms, so move in only what you plan to spend. Steps: [QR Pay getting started guide](https://docs.fizen.io/help-center/fizen-qr-pay/getting-started?ref=blog.fizen.io).

## What stays cash-only on Bohol?

Suroy's 1 November 2026 fee guide gives, per adult from outside Bohol: Chocolate Hills P150 (P75 for Bohol residents), tarsier viewing at Bilar P170, the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella P60, and a Loboc River cruise with lunch P850 to P1,200\. The page mentions no QR or card payments and advises carrying P20, P50, P100 and P200 notes, because small counters may not have change for P1,000\. A tour operator's FAQ says entrance and environmental fees are paid in pesos in cash. Amounts drift: older TripAdvisor reviews of the Chocolate Hills mention P50 and P100.

For island hopping from Panglao, ask the operator to itemise boat, environmental charges, snorkel guide, gear and island fees, as in the scams guide. If you ride in from Cebu without pesos in small notes, you will be the person asking a tricycle driver to change P1,000.

## What is the signal like on Bohol?

A Bohol connectivity guide (undated, footer 2026) reports: Panglao LTE dependable, Tagbilaran dependable, the Chocolate Hills complex on high ground generally holds a connection but the farm roads between the hills often do not, the Loboc gorge can drop a floating restaurant's signal (usually back within minutes), Anda town centres have data but coves and small resorts about ten minutes out often do not, and offshore island barangays are poor. Globe and Smart both cover Bohol, and neither is better province-wide.

As of 2 November 2026, the Fizen catalogue lists Philippines country plans on Globe 4G and 5G; fixed-data plans slow to 128 kbps once the data is used, and there is an unlimited high-speed option. Check Package details in the app before you buy. A travel eSIM is data only, so keep your home SIM on for bank codes. Your travel eSIM gift is waiting: US$10 of eSIM credit in the eSIM tab of the Fizen app, taken off the bill automatically at checkout (up to 30% of each plan, no code). Example: the 10 GB plan starts at US$15.59 in the app with the gift applied, as of 2 November 2026\. You can pay with USDT on Solana or BNB Chain, or by card. Download offline maps, and pay for the tour before the farm roads, because a QR payment needs signal too. If the line does not connect, see [the roaming-label guide](https://blog.fizen.io/philippines-esim-roaming-label-data-roaming-2026/). Prefer the web? ## What do travellers say?

From TripAdvisor reviews, summarised from search results because I could not read them in full:

- Bring small notes for terminal fees, tips and souvenirs.
- ATV and zipline add-ons at the Chocolate Hills cost extra.
- Drinks other than water are often not in the ticket.
- Landing in Manila first? Our [NAIA arrival guide](https://blog.fizen.io/manila-airport-naia-arrival-guide-2026/) covers the terminal, Grab and cash before your Cebu flight.
